Held in The Riverland 27 t0 31 March 2023
On Wednesday March 29th we were fortunate enough to have visits by both the National Rally of the Cord Duesenberg and Auburn club, and the National Rally of the Douglas Motorcycle club.
There were 28 in the “Cord Auburn” party and 36 with the “Douglas Club” We had a wonderful lunch together and there was lots of time to chat about cars and bikes before, during and after lunch.
The event created much interest from the wider community with people ringing friends and telling them to come along and many did. The quality of machines displayed was just awesome.
Most of us have seen an Auburn as there are a few in South Australia but few had seen a Cord closeup and they didn’t disappoint being just as wonderful as the pictures I have seen in magazines. Unfortunately, there was no Duesenberg, maybe next time.
The cars were beautifully presented and an absolute joy to look at.
Douglas Motorcycles are rare on the road now, but we were treated to a fascinating collection, some of which were just maintained not restored, fantastic to see after all the years.
The display caused a lot of interest especially among our bike fraternity as the collection spanned the whole range of this marque.
There were several people from over the border who like us were keen to join in such a unique group of cars and bikes. It was a wonderful day of car talk and memories.
Thanks to the 18 members of our club who joined in chatting about the cars and bikes and doing a great job with providing lunch and cleaning up – well done helpers!
I look forward to the next opportunity to host another club, these are wonderful days made possible by our fantastic clubrooms and great team of workers.
The Douglas enthusiasts have no state clubs so each year a National Rally is held in a different state.
This year, SA’s Berri was chosen, and I (Kev) was asked to help organise the daily rides from the Berri Riverside Holiday Park.
With 25 Douglas machines entered, many 100yrs old and all quite rare it was a pleasure to be involved.
Tuesday’s Ride from Berri to Renmark with morning tea held at Paul and Janene Dempsey’s while enjoying Paul’s Triumph collection!
Lunch followed at the Paringa Pub with the line-up of rare bikes in Paringa creating quite a spectacle for the locals!
Wednesday’s Ride was to Banrock for smoko followed by lunch at our RVCCC Clubrooms.
Thursday’s Ride was to the Loxton Historic Village and lunch. This concluded the rally rides.
