Back Blocks & Beyond

Held on the 8th, 9th and 10th October

42 cars arrived Saturday morning to take part in “Back Blocks and Beyond”, RVCCC’s biennial rally. 17 visiting cars came from afar as Broken Hill, Murray Bridge and Adelaide and even one from Queensland.

To get an overall picture of how the weekend went I asked for comments from the participants and have used them as the basis for this report.

Saturday Lunch, “Show and Shine” & Dinner in the Clubrooms

Morning tea on arrival was appreciated, the Sausage Sizzle lunch and “Show and Shine” took up the early afternoon. The rest of the afternoon “was quiet, more wine for us and company for the cooks”.

“Saturday night’s meal was excellent, no need for seconds, superb meal, the Beef was lovely.”

“Hot fruit salad was surprisingly good, I wouldn’t have chosen it from the menu, but I enjoyed it, and I am a fussy eater.”

“The stage with the rusty bits set the tone, it was fantastic, table decorations (barbed wire and rustic pelicans) were very appropriate.”

“The evening was overseen by “Pete’s Pelican”.

“We want Ed’s recipe for the Beef, the best ever.”

Sunday morning breakfast was at Lake Bonney

The photo on the left is Sunday morning’s Breakfast at the Yacht club.

“Weather is wonderful, we’ve been before and couldn’t wait to come back.”

Jymcarna Participant’s Quotes

“Good to watch, not brave enough to have a go!”.

“I volunteered as a marshal to let the other marshals have a shot; I enjoyed the attempted bribes.”

“The blindfold judge was particularly harsh, not bribable.”

“Jymcarna involved the wives which was great.”

“As a solo traveller it was great to have a volunteer navigator for the event, we won for the women.”

“Jymcarna was completed without any marital disharmony – no divorces – still taking orders.”

“I thought I was going backwards, but I was going forwards, Trevor was my “wife/ navigator”.”

Quotes from the Marshalls

Backing Marshall – “Bigger cars handled the backing with surprising ease, Milton’s Galax with ultra-lite power steering and being automatic, did well.”

“Dean’s Rover kept getting hot with riding the clutch.”

”Robert was the fastest reverser; he had a fast reverse gear.”

Blindfold Marshall – “Lots of revving and clutch riding but the vehicles were standing still.”

“School teachers were the worst attempted bribers.”

“One Marshall was heard offering bonus points for free dinner drinks. Overall great fun.”

“Great spectator sport and a chance to learn more about your car and your driving.”

Sunday Afternoon

“Plenty of choices for activities to suit all tastes and abilities.”

“Lock 3 was interesting, I enjoyed watching the birds (Shags?) with a big fish they caught.”

“Loch Luna cruises were very popular, they put on a morning cruise to cope with the demand.”

“Beautiful, relaxing and in our own back blocks.”

“Perfect weather, visiting our own backyard.”
