November 2022 Mid-Year Run

Held on 4, 5 & 6 November 2022

We joined the happy RVCCC members at the Loxton club meeting place ready to travel on to Swan Reach. We all travelled at a steady pace and enjoyed the scenery along the way stopping at Swan Reach for “smoko” whilst waiting for the out of towners to arrive. After a chat and refreshments, we all headed off to cross the ferry, it had to make two trips to get us all across.

We then set off to Strathalbyn via Sedan & Cambria, on arrival in Strathalbyn most of the group completed a few U Turns before we found Trevor’s home in a beautiful garden setting with the river and creek running around the boundary. We had been invited for lunch that Trevor & Rosalie had prepared which was just tremendous. BBQ and Sweets with all the trimmings.

Setting off from Strath we headed to Victor Harbour NRMA Caravan park. On checking in happy hour was organised to catch up with the group and HMVC members and arrange dinner.

Saturday most of the group visited the farmers market early with some going to the International Medieval Festival.

Mid-morning, we met at the causeway for a trip to Granite Island. Some went by Horse drawn tram others walked while some toured around town visiting OP shops, etc. Once again, all meeting up at the Causeway Cafe for lunch.

Most of the group then went on a scenic drive to Goolwa and out to the Barrage to view the state of the Murray River flow also to see Australian sea lions at play plus pelicans, cormorants catching a feed in the fast-flowing water on the Murray mouth side of the Barrage. On leaving we headed to Hindmarsh Island Marina Some of us got misplaced and toured around and found the marina later but still enjoyed the drive before heading back for happy hour drinks and nibbles.

At 6 pm we set off to the HMVC club rooms for dinner & drinks the HMVC put on a great BBQ dinner & sweets followed by checking out their Library room followed by a movie of the 1954 Redex trial. A great time was had by all the HVMC put on a great spread and made us most welcome.

Sunday morning the Victor Harbour Lions club put on a BBQ breakfast of bacon, eggs, burgers, sausages, onions and bread etc plus drinks which was more than enough for most of us, no one should have left hungry.

We then set out for Ashbourne Picnic Day via Mt Compass, where there was Shannons “Show and Shine” on the Ashbourne Oval. Deans Rover boiled and he pulled over to top up with water we waited for him to catch up and found a tap to fill his container. Meanwhile my ML300 made some funny noise and lost power. On arriving at Ashbourne, I called the RAA who came to the rescue and fixed the problem. A sensor had popped out from the intercooler area.

Kay had arranged for a picnic lunch which was supplied by HVMC and was superb, plus tea and coffee. The club also put on a few games which kept us amused.

We left early in case of any more engine problems but arrived home safely. Some of the group went on to stay at Murray Bridge before returning to the Riverland.

Ian and Daph won the best car trophy. I believe everybody would have had a great weekend as we did.
