Held in The Riverland 29 & 30 October 2022
August last year I was relaxing at home when I received a call from the BSA club President asking if I would like to organise the 2022 annual state rally!
The club had decided the Riverland would be appropriate as it was 15 years since visiting Loxton, someone with local knowledge of roads, accommodation and catering, how hard could that be? So, with no more thought I agreed, little did I realise at the time what an undertaking it would be!
So, after 15 months of planning the rally has finally happened in Berri and I’m pleased to say it all ran very smoothly.
The Berri Riverside Holiday Park was chosen for its central position to the town, Riverland and Berri Hotel. With 80 classic and vintage motorcycles and 130 people involved it took a lot of organising, but with help from the Adelaide members and good friend Allan the event ran smoothly!
Rally entrants arrived Friday night and the Berri Holiday Park fed everyone delicious pizzas with live music to entertain us. Saturday morning with mostly BSA, but all British bikes made welcome we set off to Barmera, then Morgan Road, crossing over on the ferry to our morning tea stop at the Waikerie machinery museum.
Heading south from Waikerie onto the Swan Reach Road and into Loxton where a running board lunch awaited us amid the “alive day festivities” of the Loxton Historic Village. Returning to Berri completed the 190 km journey where riders enjoyed happy hour before attending the official rally dinner at the Berri Hotel.
Sunday was a shorter route of 105 km riding from Berri over the bridge, along Gurra Road, through Lyrup, Stanitski Road and Sturt Highway to the Renmark footy clubrooms for a wonderful morning tea!
The rally then headed back through Berri and Barmera to our own RVCCC clubrooms in Cobdogla where Kay and her catering crew provided 120 visitors with a superb barbecue lunch.
Speeches followed dessert and then with rally concluded riders returned to Berri.
