Wow! It’s amazing what brilliant sunshine, calm and 22c will do to a rider’s enthusiasm!
What a glorious day and with ten motorcycles in the Berri car park I just knew we were in for some fun!
A discussion began planning the day’s route when a certain member who had been threatening afternoon tea with scones in his shed for months arrived on his red Ariel square four, announcing “today is the day” with his wife ready in the kitchen, in scone mode!
Well, what could we do? It took a nano second and we were ready to head off for Loveday! But how to get there?
We needed a leader and who better to lead than Pete and Jenny in their lovely red MGB!
We rode to Barmera, then did a lap of the lake before Pete led us to Chris and Carol’s Loveday home.
On arrival Chris gave a talk on each of his machines which included a G80 Matchless 500, Royal Enfield 250, Velocette Venom 500, Ariel square four 1000 and his latest acquisition, a beautiful Vincent Comet 500.
All his bikes were made between 1948 and 1951 and it is pretty obvious he is a very committed Anglophile as his collection also includes an MGB, Jaguar MK 2 and a Daimler V12!!
It was an effort to move everyone out of the sheds but when the piping hot scones arrived, we had a group of very happy riders!
We all enjoyed a great afternoon, thanking Chris and Carol for their hospitality before heading for home.
